Plastic breakdown breakthrough: PolyCycl unveils chemical recycling technology

PolyCycl

Chandigarh-based startup PolyCycl has introduced its patented chemical recycling technology, offering an innovative solution for plastic waste management. Developed over a decade, this fully indigenous process converts single-use plastics and hard-to-recycle materials into circular polymers, sustainable fuels, and low-carbon materials. The technology prevents plastics like polyolefin packaging from ending up in landfills, enabling continuous recycling without quality loss.

Behind the scenes:

At the core of this breakthrough is PolyCycl’s ContiFlow Cracker, a thermo-chemical pyrolysis system combined with PyOilClean refining to transform plastic waste into purified hydrocarbon oils. These oils serve as chemical feedstocks for plastic recycling, producing virgin-quality materials for industries such as food and pharmaceutical sustainable packaging. With conversion yields of 65-75%, the technology has already been validated by global petrochemical companies.

Made in India, for India:

Designed for scalability and cost efficiency, the modular processing units can handle 15 to 100 tonnes of plastic waste per day at costs significantly lower than similar European and US technologies. PolyCycl’s solution aligns with India’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations, which require 30% recycled content in rigid plastic packaging by 2025-26. The company’s Generation VI technology ensures compliance by delivering high-quality recycled polymers for critical applications.

Covering all bases:

As industries shift toward a circular economy, plastic waste-to-fuel and advanced recycling technologies are becoming vital for sustainability. “The plastic waste challenge demands a multi-pronged approach, from improved packaging design to robust EPR policies and chemical recycling,” said Amit Tandon, Founder & CEO of PolyCycl. “Our technology accelerates the adoption of circular polymers, supporting India’s transition to a more sustainable future.”
