Leena Kurup, IT Experience, Globant APAC Region admits that the process of going green has to be a mindset change.
There is a common perception that Green cannot clean…
We all are at the learning stage to know how green products can help with cleaning. As said before, it is all about understanding if the product has the right mix to make it fully green.
Can green help? Yes. We first need to understand what the product is, and what its usability is. Green products like chemical products that show results immediately are effective in many ways, and these products increase the lifecycle of the areas of usage.
What are the key factors to drive the cost-effectiveness of green chemicals
From a facility manager’s perspective, the cost of green products currently is expensive but the ROI can be defined by measuring the increase in life span of the products that are cleaned or maintained by using these cleaning agents. The impact of these products is not only enhancing the life of the machineries but also creating a positive impact on the environment and the employees.
Cleaning is an evolving industry and there are so many innovations happening. We would definitely like to pit to use whichever suits each one of us.
Are there any regulatory challenges while shifting to green products?
Initially, there were challenges to procure these products from the market as they were not standardised and did not have proper registrations. Currently, the scenarios have changed and we are now able to find/ procure the products that have evolved and that meet all the statutory requirements.
We need to procure products that are registered and ISO-certified. Many products in the industry are available with a certain fixed cost. If you are procuring from ISO-certified vendors, then there should not be any problems.
Do you assess the effectiveness of green cleaning?
Yes, we have internal audits for the products we use whereby we need to record the details of each product. The facility maintenance teams are responsible for giving a healthy environment to our Globers (Our employees). If these services are outsourced, it is important to carry out vendor assessments on a regular basis.
These chemicals are cost-intensive; but essential for a healthy environment…
One of the core values that can be embodied with the employees: ‘Be kind to the planet’ — Though these chemicals are cost-intensive we create awareness of the environmental issues and educate folks on the usage of natural products that reduce the negative impact on the planet. Creating awareness can be a goal of the company and the industry. Workplace experience managers can have the offices maintained with natural light and a lot of greenery around, which can improve the overall well-being of the employees.
