The Kanpur Municipal Corporation has awarded the contract for collection and transportation of municipal solid waste for Kanpur city to A2Z Infrastructure Limited for a period of 30 years.
Speaking to CIJ, Vikram Singh, Municipal Commissioner of Kanpur Municipal Corporation said, “A2Z will manage the solid waste of the zone IV of the Kanpur city. We introduced the system in this zone because it has a mix of residential, commercial and slum areas. There will be door-to-door collection and transportation, processing and disposal of the waste in an environmental friendly manner.” This project is being touted as South East Asia’s largest integrated municipal solid waste management facility. A2Z Infrastructure will be managing approximately 1,500 tonnes/day of solid waste collected from around 850,000 houses. By next year, Kanpur hopes to rank number one in cleanliness too. “It is time to change the attitude of the people towards cleanliness so that the technological breakthroughs brought about by A2Z are best utilised by the city.”
