Members of the Eco Club and students of ITM Business School, Kharghar (Navi Mumbai) came together to clean the beaches at Shivaji Park and Girgaum Chowpatty with the mission of ‘Clean Mumbai, Green Mumbai.’
Shivaji Park and Girgaum Chowpatty are Mumbai areas that always get dirty post-Ganesh Visarjan. ITM Kharghar’s Eco Club students have been conducting the clean-up drive here every year since the last 6 years, to spread awareness about environment protection by showcasing the right practices.
Armed with brooms and gloves, students came together to clean the 2.5km stretch at Shivaji Park beach and four-kilometre stretch at Girgaum Chowpatty beach. In two hours, around 190 bags were filled with waste collected from the beach.
The students also urged the local residents as well as other Mumbaikars to get rid of plastic and become ecofriendly. The initiative helped change the face of the beaches. The clean-up also helped the students understand how littering and lack of proper waste management end up impacting the beaches and marine species.
