Mazagon Dock Limited, India’s premier shipyard company, under Govt. of India is planning to outsource Contract for Cleaning of accommodation areas and machinery compartments of Y-26775. As per the specification, power supply, water and compressed air up to the points are available at jetty. Compressed air will also be available only on all working days during 1st shift (i.e. Between 7.00AM to 4.30PM).
M M Haryani, General Manager (Outsourcing Dept.), Mazgaon Dock Ltd. told Clean India Journal, “Such kind of cleaning is required two months prior to the delivery of ship. Labour is required for removal of dust, redundant material and manually lifting of scrap material. Mechanised cleaning through Vacuum Cleaners and other cleaning equipment is required based on the requirement, work load and area covered in the ship.”
“We generally award the contract to the lowest bidder through a biennial rate contract and specify the minimum labour required based on the HR policy that manpower should be outsourced for non-core / unskilled business activities,” he explained. A minimum of 24 personnel (12 for Accommodation job & 12 for Machinery compartment) are required to be deployed per shift of eight hours for the completion of job.
Cleaning of accommodation area would also involve soap solution, phenyl, cleaning liquid for tiles/ Checker plates. The contractor is supposed to have cleaning gears (buckets, wire brush, mug, cloth, broom etc.).
