MCGM has approved the work order for hiring of closed body vehicles on a Built Own and Operate (BOO) basis for transportation of municipal solid waste (MSW) of the Mumbai city.
S.G. Chitale, Chief Engineer(Solid Waste Management) told Clean India Journal, “MCGM have formed eight groups for 24 wards to manage the job. Each group will be supplied four types of vehicles by the contractors – regular compactor, small compactor, small tipper vehicle of 6 tonne, 2.5 tonne and one tonne capacity respectively. The supply will also include watch & ward vehicle for each ward and emergency maintenance vehicle.” The SWM Department will entail an expenditure of र 970 crore for the next five years, which involves transportation of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). The work involves 1620 vehicle trips managed by a total 1176 vehicles – 337 vehicles from MCGM and 839 from private agencies.
