In order to encourage mechanized sweeping, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has renewed the road cleaning service contract with Ram Engineering & Construction Co-Bhumika Transport (ME Infraprojects), a joint venture for city cleaning signed for another five years. “This will enable us to divert at least 1000 workers to sweep unserviced areas,” said Rahul Shewale, Chairman of BMC Standing Committee.
Lokesh Jain, Managing Director of Bhumika Transport Ram Engineering, told CIJ, “We already have four machines running in Mumbai and we are procuring three more machines under the new contract.” The sweepers cover roads from Bandra to Dahisar in the Western region and from Mulund to Chunabhatti in the Central region (total four paths to and fro). The machines customized for sweeping Indian roads, have been supplied by Mumbai based Pamtec Enviro Systems Pvt Ltd.
