New sanitation plan for Nagpur

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) may soon get approval to implement a city sanitation plan worth over 3,000 crore. The Central Government has started the process to appoint consultants to prepare plans for 18 cities, including Nagpur.

Confirming the development, Municipal Commissioner Shyam Wardhane has said, “The process of making changes in the NMC city sanitation plan is in progress. NMC submitted the plan a couple of years ago. We need to make some changes due to revision in prices and norms.”

“The government wants city sanitation to be given top priority in JNNURM phase-II. We hope to get an early approval for the city sanitation plan, which aims to solve all issues related to sewage, storm water, open defecation, solid waste, etc.,” he added.

The Central Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) is implementing capacity building for urban development project (CBUD). “Some 30 cities, including two from the States — Nagpur and Solapur — have been selected. MoUD invited expression of interest from interested consultants to prepare city sanitation plan for 18 cities.
