Some laundries in New Zealand have begun to do away with using plastic bags or covers to encase the cleaned clothes. They have found that customers are satisfied even without such coverings on their garments.
One laundry uses compostable dry cleaning bags, which decompose up to 95% within six weeks. Even these are provided only if the customer asks for it. They do not affect the quality of the product, or require any change in inhouse laundry processes.
Another laundry owner said that his customers were happy with their clean garments remaining entirely uncovered. While they do have a roll of biodegradable bags in the shop, it is not offered until requested by the customer.
