Pune Municipal Corporation stands out for its comprehensive and innovative approach to waste management. Generating 2,100-2,200 metric tonnes of waste daily, the city has invested heavily in material recovery facilities, bio CNG plants, waste-to-energy plants, and a C&D waste plant, reclaiming over 23 acres of land, showcasing its commitment to sustainable waste management practices. CSR funds support e-waste collection, with 1-2.5 metric tonnes collected monthly.
Jagtap Prasad, Executive Engineer, Solid Waste Management at Pune Municipal Corporation, sheds light on the city’s technological integration, stating, “We have integrated IoT sensor automation into our processing plants, and have a command-and-control room to track the movement of all waste collection vehicles.” This not only enhances efficiency but also ensures transparency and accountability in the waste management process.
