Chandigarh has introduced specially designed bins for collection of e-waste in the city. These bins are placed in eight locations across the city. The e-waste would be collected from here and then taken for processing in an eco-friendly manner. The initiative has been taken by CII’s Young Indians Tricity Chandigarh Chapter and UT Environment Department in association with Attero Recycling Private Limited. During a e-waste collection drive around 1,000 kg of e-waste was collected. The bins have been placed at various places around the city. There are plans to place additional 30 bins with lock and key facility at different locations.
The e-waste deposited in these bins would be collected by Attero Recycling Private Limited and taken to Roorkee for processing. Around 1,000 kilo e-waste was collected during the drive. At present there is no e-waste facility in the city.
