Waste to energy plants

Despite worries and pposition of locals on the harmful effects of Okhla’s waste-to-energy plant in New Delhi on the environment, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee has given approval for the commissioning of two more plants to solve the waste disposal problem in Delhi. As the waste processed is of poor calorific value and the plants do not function efficiently on such low quality waste, the incinerating of such waste for generation of electricity releases toxic gases.
