A2Z Infrastructure – the Gurgaon-based firm that has entered into an agreement with the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) for setting up a solid waste management plant – has come forward to keep the city spic and span during the National Games.
The company has already pressed into service 10 Tata Hoppers, small hydraulic vehicles that collect garbage; two trash compactors, big hydraulic vehicles that take away garbage for disposal; one road sweeper; and 50 rickshaws. This apart, A2Z Infrastructure has also brought five expert supervisors from Patna to oversee the cleanliness work. The civic body, on its part, has provided 15 of its supervisors.
A2Z entered into an agreement with RMC in January to set up a solid waste plant in Ranchi under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. The Centre has sanctioned `51.39 crore for the project.
According to procedure, the Tata Hoppers, each having the capacity to carry about one tonne garbage, go around the city, collect garbage and drop it in the two trash compactors. The trash compactors, which can carry 15 to 16 tonnes of garbage at a time, dispose the rubbish outside the city at Jhiri village near Ratu, where the waste plant has been planned.
The lone road sweeper, which will soon be assisted by another, will spruce up important thoroughfares like Mahatma Gandhi Road and Kantatoli-Khel Gaon-Booty More Road. According to the officials of the company, the city will be cleaned twice – early in the morning and in the evening. Besides, the company will place 150 dustbins along the main road so that residents and visitors can throw waste there.
