AMC organises Zero Waste to Landfill Rath Yatra

by Clean India Journal Editor
4 comments

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), in partnership with Colgate-Palmolive and Nepra Foundation, organised the Zero Waste to Landfill Rath Yatra during the 147th Rath Yatra festival in Ahmedabad. Lakhs of people who participate in the Rath Yatra litter around creating large amounts of waste in the city.

Over 100 volunteers from Colgate-Palmolive and Nepra Foundation actively participated in cleaning and waste collection during the Rath Yatra. AMC to ensure this large-scale event was a zero-waste-to-landfill event, took initiatives to collect waste at source. Over 10,000 kilograms of waste, including prasad disposals, PET bottles, and multi-layered packaging, were collected in just one day. This effort mitigated more than 300 kilograms of carbon emissions.

The collected waste was carefully sorted and sent for sustainable disposal, ensuring nothing ended up in landfills.

This initiative aligns with the broader goals of Nirmal Gujarat and Swachh Bharat, demonstrating a robust collaboration between public and private entities, NGOs, and the community.
