HPMF 8th Annual Convention & Awards Empowering Experience

by Clean India Journal - Editor

HPMF had partnered with Hospitality Biz to launch a book on Hospitality Procurement Practices as part of their educational initiative, on day-3. The contributors to the book are professional procurement managers with vast experience. Jaideep Gupta, Editor and Advisory Board Member HPMF said, “designed for practising hospitality purchasing employees and those who are contemplating a career in this field, this volume will serve as a great reference book.”

The opening speech was delivered by Jay Raman, CMD of Oriental Lotus, Platinum Partner for the convention. Following a brief update on the latest developments in the company, he shifted focus with the rhetoric, “why am I hooked on HPMF?” Repeating what earlier speakers had stated he too wished that someone would award the contract to someone other than L1. He complimented the forum’s power of networking, re-iterating the benefits by saying, “start digging your well before you are thirsty.”

Aval Sethi delivered a wakeup call to those who are stuck in their lives and continue existing instead of living. With a startling title ‘Don’t Die before you are Dead’, the talk focussed on where you are and where you can be and chartered a pathway for reaching the goal. “Stop waiting for someday,” he said. “Your moment is NOW!!!”

Closely linked to the previous talk, Brig. Sushil Bhasin made a presentation that projected TIME as a vital resource. ‘Creative Time Leadership – How leaders generate time and use it as a resource’ stated some hardcore facts about time and seven tools to use time effectively. It also referred to a newly coined acronym ROTI – Return On Time Invested.

Cleanliness is the hallmark of hospitality. The current brouhaha on the use of plastic has turned the spotlight on the hotel industry leaving organizations with no choice but to seek alternatives. The panel discussion ‘Is the Hospitality geared up for the plastic ban in the country?’ was moderated by Mala Singh, Chairperson and MD at PEC Greening India. Ecotels are already following such practices as part of the environmental programme. Seizing the moment, vendors are already marketing alternatives to plastic.

Appropriate for the role of purchase managers in the Hospitality Industry, Amit Pandey gave a talk on ‘Achieving Excellence in Chaos and Change’. The video of a classic shot made by Tiger Woods, served as a start for the talk which further revealed the importance of the Happiness Index.

Sumit Jha, Managing Editor of Draft Editorial Services released the inaugural issue of Procurement Arena – a magazine dedicated to the Procurement Professional. This event was in sync with the theme ‘Swach, Saksham, Samrudhi’ which when translated means Clean, Competence and Prosperity.
