The Hyderabad Marathon took on a new theme this year with the Swachh Hyderabad promotion campaign conducted in collaboration with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
The annual Marathon competition being organised since 2007 creates a whole new generation of runners to promote health & fitness and encourages societal well-being for a social cause among the citizens. Swachh Hyderabad coinciding with the Swachh Bharat Mission under the special thematic drive Swachh Sports Club aimed at sensitizing the runners for improvising sanitation in Hyderabad. More than 16,000 people participated from across the country.
The Marathon covered an area of 42.194km between people’s plaza in necklace road to Gachibowli stadium. Many runners carried the Swachh Hyderabad backdrop all along the run. Young participants volunteered to use the Swachh baskets placed by GHMC to collect and through the garbage during the run. GHMC extended support to Hyderabad Marathon by cleaning of the roads, collecting waste generated during the event, managing the traffic in the Marathon route and providing waste collecting staff and vehicles. GHMC Municipal Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy promised to bring in more Swachh Ambassadors to campaign for Swachh Hyderabad.
