Indore’s innovative zero-waste model has been hailed as exemplary by Rupa Mishra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, during her visit to the city. Highlighting its role in promoting the circular economy, she praised the Indore Municipal Corporation’s efforts in waste segregation and citizen engagement, calling it a replicable model for sustainable cities.
Accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma, Mishra toured facilities in Ward 47, including the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), where dry waste like plastic, paper, and metals is recycled. She also visited the RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Center to observe how public awareness is fostered, alongside plastic and wet waste processing units that transform waste into reusable products and compost.
Mishra emphasized the technical excellence and community participation driving Indore’s success. She recommended documenting this model as a blueprint for other cities to adopt, advancing sustainable urban development through effective waste management practices.
