Litter-free Streets

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has redesigned the garbage clearance procedure to make the streets litter-free. Armed with 101 route managers to track the movement of dumper placers and tippers, the Corporation has devised a plan so that each route manager could supervise two to three routes in the city. A log book would be maintained by the route managers. They would also inform the sanitary inspectors if any vehicle is found stranded on the way, ensure that all dumper bins are cleared within 24-hours, and all the garbage reach the dumping yard by 10.30am every day. The VMC lifts more than 500 tonnes of garbage every day from every nook and corner of the city.
