The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) is inviting Associations and like-minded activist to step up and spread awareness on waste-segregation in the city. Panaji started a ‘binless city’ campaign almost a decade ago, and achieved success in door-to-door collection of garbage. This is just one of a few initiatives, which produced replicable models for other civic bodies and panchayats to take up.
Speaking to Clean India Journal, Environment Activist Patricia Pinto, who is closely working with the Corporation, said, “We want individuals, Associations and even activists to come forward and help us in our initiatives and above all we need citizen participation. In the past, we have involved and trained school students to spread awareness. From this February, we have also involved the ‘Wives of Sailors’ and their associates to explain and demonstrate waste segregation at individual houses.”
The group has already adopted one of the colonies in Panaji and is in a process of adopting another in the coming months.
