Plastic free weddings?

Carrying forward their efforts to transform Cuttack into a polythene-free city, the district administration and civic authorities have banned use of plastic items at wedding venues and community halls. In order to ensure easy availability of the biodegradable alternatives, the district administration has decided to promote manufacturing of earthen pots and leaf /paper plates along with paper bags in a big way. The manufacturing activities would be undertaken through the SHG groups, thereby serving the dual purpose of making products easily available as well as generating employment opportunities to the people.
