Star rating for health centres

Public health institutions in the country will soon be rated between zero and five stars based on the availability of services. The Ministry of Health has drawn up elaborate guidelines for star rating of community health centres – the third tier in the National Health Mission – in the first phase. Also being considered is a five per cent incentive in National Health Mission funds to states based on the cumulative star ratings of their public health centres.

For a health facility to be eligible for star rating, apart from doctors, nurses, operation theatre and generator, it needs to have separate toilets for men and women.
