As streets overflow with recyclable garbage and cities struggle with inept management systems, Kuppathotti.com, an online venture started by Chennai based couple Jegan and Sujatha, provides recyclable waste collection services at the doorstep and also pays you for the junk.
There are 3500 registered customers selling their waste to Kuppathotti and in return they can also avail other services related to electric, plumbing and carpentry work. Within 15 days of registration, the customer is visited by the Kuppathotti executive, who collects newspaper, milk sachets, plastic, metal and even e-waste and loads them on to a van. A single van has the capacity to collect waste from about 25-30 customers a day. The gunny bags of collected junk are then dropped off at the Kuppathotti’s godown from where these are later sent to recycling factories.
