30 New Public Toilets in Belapur

Taking cognisance of the PM’s recall to make India ODF, Manda Mhatre, MLA-Belapur, Navi Mumbai recently announced to construct 30 toilets in her constituency under the MLA fund.

Given the fact that there are no urinal facilities particularly for women on the Lonavala-Mumbai highway and many other roads, people suffer a lot. Open defecation and the stench of urine permeates make it difficult to have a pleasant travel experience. “Marking the birthday of Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fernavais, the project will be launched on July 22 at sector 15, Belapur,” said Manda. The MLA fund worth rupees two crores will be allotted for the project. The size of the toilets is around 12x8ft which is much more spacious than that of the present ones being made by the Municipality. “These public toilet facilities will have toilets for men and women and two urinals for men. Other facilities, such as security, seating arrangements outside the toilets and washbasin along with mirror will also be provided. The toilets will be maintained by NMMC.

Responding to the area identification, Mhatre said, “Besides Palm-beach highway, we are also considering temples, schools, railway stations and slum areas for the installation. Three agencies have shown interest in the project, and we are examining the proposals at present.”

Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner, Prabhat Ranjan; NMMC Dinesh T. Waghmare and Shriram Ghate, Director-Jagsons Services (P) Ltd were also present during the announcement.
