The recently concluded International Cleaning Fair CMS 2009 – Cleaning, Management, Services – has proved that the cleaning industry is bouncing back. The record number of trade visitors (14,230) and exhibitors (350) is indicative of the positive outlook and robust nature of the cleaning industry, especially the German cleaning industry. The overall display area measured 24,700 sq. mt.
Bernd Heilmann, Chairman of the Board of the VDMA Cleaning Systems Trade Association, said that the Berlin Show this year exceeded the high expectations. “In an economically difficult situation, companies are called upon to step up the pace of innovation, something we could see everywhere in the display halls. The light at the end of the tunnel is much brighter now,” he said.
There were numerous innovative cleaning machines and cleaning agents on display. Sustainability had a prominent place – the first cleaning machine with an eco-friendly fuel cell, floor cleaning machines with sensor technology of the kind used to assist parking cars or the first floor care cleaning agent combining four functions in one product. One manufacturer had on display an innovative two-component floor finishing product which was almost as good as varnishing wooden floors. The leading trends are Environmental Protection and Cost Saving. Ergonomic Design is also accepted as an important aspect of the product aspect.
The recipients of the third CMS Purus awards are:
Category 1 – Machines: The compact BR30-4C scrubber-drier from Alfred Karcher GmbH & Co KG.
Category 2 – Equipment: The Ergoclean “superbly adjustable” telescopic handle from Vikan GmbH.
Category 3 – Sanitary Equipment: The ParadiseLine designer range of dispensers from CWS-boco Deutschland GmbH.
Category 4 – Management Solutions: The Cleaning Management Training DVD from Tana Chemie GmbH.
The CMS is acquiring an increasingly international dimension, with a supporting programme this year aimed at visitors from Central and Eastern Europe and joint ventures between the CMS and a couple of international cleaning shows for improving export opportunities. Clean India Journal was represented at Berlin by Editor Mangala Chandran and Managing Director Jayaprakash Nair.
