The German Engineering Federation (VDMA) in association with Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has developed an innovative “Skill Development Program in Cleaning Sector skills for Facility Management (FM) sector in India”. The pilot project was launched in January 2013 and in the second phase ‘Training of Trainees Program’ began at the newly built GMR Varalakshmi Training Institute, near Dwarka and at Don Bosco Yuva Kendra New Delhi in May.
The project aims to professionally train and provide skilled manpower of 900 to1300 youths from the marginalised sections of the society every year and raise awareness about worker and women’s rights in the cleaning sector.
Cleaning equipment manufacturers like Karcher and Roots India, members of the VDMA in India, are actively supporting the project.
The programme and curriculum developed in Germany and adapted in India is designed to complement theoretical education with practical training in the cleaning sector. The first-of-its-kind project in India is backed by vocational training institutes like GMRV Foundation (GMRVF) and Don Bosco (DB) India.
The training of VDMA master trainers took place at Alfred Kaercher GmbH & Co.A.G, Hako Werke Gmbh along with several other VDMA members in Germany specializing in modern cleaning technology. In order to find rightful and just employment for the youths after the training, the VDMA team have been in constant interaction with medium and large facility management companies across Delhi-NCR and Mumbai, apprising them of the developments and course contents of the programme. The industry response has been welcoming.
