With the objective of achieving effective collection and disposal of garbage, Municipal Corporation Rohtak (MCR) has introduced Global Positioning System (GPS) in the city for the first time. Ashima Sangwan, Joint Commissioner, MCR, informed Clean India Journal, “The GPS system launched on a pilot basis, has been very effective in monitoring the amount of work done.”
The Rohtak Corporation at present has one GPS enabled vehicle, which is operational in the city. “Considering the magnitude of the job, we are planning to procure two more vehicles for the purpose in the coming months,” Ashima said.
The GPS is being supervised by sanitary inspectors, who ensure that the vehicle dumps the garbage at the designated place and in the minimum possible time. The Corporation has also made provision to contact officials in case there is a delay in the removal of garbage from any spot in the city through a designated toll-free number. This system has been found much affective than manually supervising the 20 tractors that were earlier engaged in garbage collection
