The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has launched the GOBAR (Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources) – DHAN scheme at the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) Auditorium, Karnal. It was launched by Union Minister, Sushri Uma Bharti in presence of the Chief Minister of Haryana, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar. The launch was attended by sarpanches from the project villages, implementing agencies, officers from 14 states and district officers.
The scheme aims to positively impact village cleanliness and generate wealth and energy from cattle and organic waste. It also targets at creating new rural livelihood opportunities and enhancing income for farmers and other rural people. The scheme envisions the implementation of 700 bio-gas units in different states of the country in 2018-19. Under this scheme, cooking gas would be provided to rural habitations and technical support would ensure that the scheme functions on sustainable basis.
Uma Bharti thanked the people of India for making the Swachh Bharat Mission a success and spoke about the importance of GOBAR-DHAN as a key component of the ODF-plus strategy in the country. She also spoke about the potential of converting waste into energy, and called upon people to accept the transformation, follow it and participate in the change happening in rural India under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
