Soils, Stains and Carpets

The ability of today’s carpet fibres to hide soiling though a positive feature, does not eliminate the need for regular cleaning. Soil can damage the fibres permanently if allowed to remain in the pile. Even with carpet’s ability to resist soiling and stains, a regular maintenance programme extends the life and appearance of your carpet.

For maximum effectiveness, use a vacuum cleaner with adjustable and rotating brushes that can loosen ground-in soil and has a strong enough airflow to penetrate to the backing, removing all particles. The vacuum cleaner should have an enclosed, high filtration bag that limits particles re-circulating into the air. Restorative cleaning must be performed to remove stubborn or embedded soil.

Stain-resist treatments provided on most carpets are designed to repel most acidbased dyes in many, but not all, foods and beverages.

 Most carpets available today are treated with stain-resist products, so most of the spills can be removed if immediate action is taken.

The first step is to blot liquids with a dry, white, absorbent cloth or white (no printing) paper towels. Scrubbing can cause pile distortion in the affected area. Continue to use a dry cloth or paper towels until the area is completely dry. For semisolids, gently scrape up with a rounded spoon. Solids should be broken up and vacuumed until completely removed.

The majority of carpets manufactured today is constructed with synthetic fibres, could be cleaned with products like Buzil Rossari’s “Optifloor”.

Soap, laundry detergent, automatic dishwasher detergent, or any of the strong household cleaning agents intended for use on hard surfaces, should be avoided. For best cleaning results, always vacuum the area to be cleaned then apply Optifloor to loosen the soil.

Natural fibres may require specialized care, therefore for Wool fibres – Excessive agitation and excessive heat should be avoided. Wool is easily damaged by bleaches and alkalies. Clean wool with neutral detergent like Optifloor and dry quickly to limit yellowing or browning. Silk should be cleaned using a dry cleaning process. These fibres may be damaged by high temperatures, high pH (>9) and sunlight and will lose strength when wet. Buzil’s O-Tens can be used to remove difficult stains.
