Central Railway to outsource industrial waste disposal

In order to address the disposal of unsegregated industrial waste from its repair workshop located at Matunga, Central Railway is planning to outsource the job to a government authorised agency as per the industrial waste handling and disposal norms under the Factories Act. The agency to be hired within a month will also engage in sweeping road, shop, office area and garbage sorting of Matunga workshop with the help of about 150 trained manpower.

Speaking to Clean India Journal at the workshop, A K Singh, Chief Works Manager, said, “We will be awarding the contract to a competent agency through an open tender. Approved agencies under the MCGM list are also invited in the bidding process. We are in the process of framing the works proposal for which we are doing the budgeting, technical evaluation and analyzing the quantum of work. The job will entail an annual expenditure of र1.25 crore.”

The workshop is planning to implement mechanised cleaning in its premises. A modernisation programme to build new roads, roofs and floors is also in the offing in order to make the infrastructure conducive for mechanised cleaning. “We are also looking for skilled and trained manpower for cleaning and housekeeping for which there is a dearth in the market,” Singh informed.
