Pune based Praj Industries has developed a new technology, which can produce ethanol from waste such as corncobs and bagasse (a pulpy waster leftover after the juice has been extracted from sugarcane) instead of traditional raw materials like molasses, food grains and vegetables. The bio-fuel ethanol can easily blend with hydrocarbons to power automobiles and thus it is environment friendly and cheap. The annual demand for ethanol in India has risen to 600 million litres since the government allowed blending of this bio-fuel.
