In an initiative to better address the waste collection and recycling, the Mangalore City Corporation is working towards implementing a three-phase system in all its wards. Speaking to Clean India Journal at his office in Mangalore, Municipal Commissioner Harish Kumar said, “The three phase system begins with door to door collection and segregation in the first phase, transportation to the landfill site in the second phase and conversion of garbage into manure in the third phase.” The Mangalore Corporation will be sharing its successful model at an exclusive Seminar on Waste Recycling being organised during the Clean India Show 2012 at Bangalore.
MCC has already procured government clearance for the third phase recently and the first and second phase is in the process of getting sanctioned, the Commissioner said.“Garbage collection is a big challenge for any Corporation and doing house to house collection and disposal to the landfill site will be the best mechanism. We are looking for a good mechanism to work out the same as soon as the government gives approval.”
