
The cement and building materials company, ACC, along with Adani Foundation, is building washing platforms in Chhatatand gram panchayat (Baliapur block) as part of their initiative to upgrade public health, rural hygiene. Three high-usage ponds were the sites for the construction of the hygiene structures, at Chhatatand, Simatand and Kushberia villages. Water contamination and health risks linked to open washing near village ponds was a health issue earlier.
These platforms are equipped with drainage systems to keep wastewater from entering the main water body. The ACC-Adani Foundation venture, built with durable local materials and inputs especially from the village women, offers cleaner and stable surfaces to clean the clothes, utensils. The results have been encouraging. Local health workers reported fewer skin infections and reduced water-borne illnesses. Residents, particularly the women, use these platforms for daily chores and benefit from cleaner surroundings, reduced physical strain.
Children and youth are also becoming aware of hygienic practices due to this platform’s initiative. It highlights how village infrastructure can be enhanced to boost long-term public health. The ACC and Adani Foundation tie-up demonstrates how by supporting impactful solutions which are people-focussed, the rural environment can be healthier and cleaner.
