After the successful implementation of Nirmal Gujarat, Chief Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Mahatma Gandhi Swachhta Mission, five-year cleanliness & hygiene drive which will culminate with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019.
Under the Mission, a revolutionary and sustained effort through public participation will be put in place in sanitation covering all rural and urban areas.Empowering the people, especially women, through sanitation and hygiene best practices and with the enforcement of ‘Zero-waste policy,’ the mission is aimed to create a ‘plastic-waste free Gujarat’ by 2019.
Initiating the mission on February 26, Modi said, “Gandhi was the propagator of cleanliness throughout his life. Let’s move towards paperless office. Our dream is to make a digital India, and we will start from Gujarat. The 21st century will be known as the virtual century. We will celebrate the 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi by bringing ‘Brown Revolution’ in India”.
The Clean India Team rises up to the occasion with the forthcoming Clean India Show in Ahmedabad, in the very first year of Gujarat’s clean India movement.
