It is training locals to be self-reliant for masks.
APM Terminals Pipavav, one of India’s leading gateway ports, has commenced training women of surrounding villages in mask making. This initiative is aimed at ensuring the availability of washable cloth masks for about 20,000 residents of the area. This will also help in generating employment.
For example, masks prepared by the women of Rajula, are being purchased and used by people of Rajula. The port aims to reach out to 50 villages by facilitating training. This initiative will also provide free of cost masks to approximately 3,000 labourers from eighteen villages who are working under the MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) scheme at Rajula.
