Mysore zoo will soon have solid waste management system in place. A team of scientists from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, visited the zoo to discuss the project to convert animal waste into bio-gas. The zoo authorities are planning to convert a biomethanation plant to process about 1.5 tonnes of cattle dung. The plant is expected to generate 80-90 metric cube of fuel which would be used for preparing food for animals. Besides Mysore, Mangalore is the only other place in the state to have a biomethanation plant.
