PCMC awarded for cleanliness

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has bagged first prize in Sant Gadge Baba cleanliness drive for 2008-09, in the category of municipal corporations with population of more than 10 lakh. PCMC was awarded on the basis of its performance in the fields of water supply, drainage, solid waste management, medical management, roads, gardens, social security and others. PCMC has facilities for primary, secondary and tertiary garbage disposal, it had also purchased compactors to transport the garbage from the bins to the Moshi garbage depot. It had introduced the GPS system to monitor the garbage clearance work of the compactors. Besides, the corporation has also started door-to-door garbage collection in Nigdi, Talawade, Chikhli, Akurdi, Kalewadi, Pimpale Gurav, Pimpale Saudgar, Sangvi, Pimpale Nilakh and other areas. To treat hotel and vegetable market waste, PCMC is also operating a vermicompost plant at the Moshi garbage depot.
