Sanitation Campaign

Himachal Pradesh is poised to become the first ‘Nirmal State’ (Open Defecation Free) in India. As of date, 3202 Panchayats of the State are completely ODF and the remaining 41 Panchayats would be ODF by August 2011, thus achieving 100% success to become the ‘Nirmal Himachal’ and ‘Nirmal State’ of the country. The Total Sanitation Campaign had made such an impact on the rural community that the village sanitation committees have made it mandatory not to defecate in open.
