Action plan for Campaign Clean India

Tourism Minister invites suggestions for keeping the tourist destinations clean

Campaign Clean India is an initiative taken by the Ministry of Tourism to clean select tourist destinations. In an exclusive interview with Clean India Journal, Subodh Kant Sahai, Central Minister for Tourism, said, “Just like Municipal Corporations that have engaged Cleaning Contractors to clear garbage, the Ministry is looking at a similar arrangement to get some of the tourist destinations clean. The contract cleaners should be engaged in keeping the approach roads clean and the money collected from the shopkeepers can be utilised in paying these contractors. They all can become partners of Incredible India.” The Minister discussed the various options of chalking out a road map to create a sustainable model.

The Campaign will aim to double the number of inbound tourists to India from the present five million to 10 million by the end of 2016, which would be one per cent of all global travellers visiting India. The Minister is also open to suggestions from Clean India Journal and cleaning professionals.
